As you probably don't know, I love horses. I'm so pumped for the race that I even started a blog with my dad called thederbyblog.com. It features analysis from NBC commentator Donna Brothers and tw0-time Derby champion Chris McCarron (jockey).
If you are into horse racing, you will appreciate this info. Otherwise, start gettin' hyped for Saturday:
The Run for the Roses will be missing two very familiar faces on Saturday: trainers D. Wayne Lukas and Nick Zito, neither of which has a horse in the race.
It is the first-time ever both will not have a horse since Zito's first Derby in 1990.
Astonishingly, this is the third time in last six years that Lukas – the trainer with the most Derby starters ever – has missed competing in the race. Meanwhile for Zito, this comes a year after he trained a record-tying five horses in the Derby.
To put this in perspective, take a look at the trainers with the most Kentucky Derby starters ever:
1. D. Wayne Lukas: 42
2. H.J. Thompson: 24
3. Nick Zito: 19
